Frequently Asked Questions
Can a clock or watch be overwound?
No, any watch or clock in good running condition should be completely wound to achieve maximum running time.
What wears out in a clock?
The holes in the plates where the gears rotate become elongated due to dry and/or dirty oil. Both the old oil and elongated holes cause friction which stops the clock.
How often should I service my clock?
The oil in a clock will dry up in about 3 years. We recommend you service your clock every 2.5 years by either having it oiled or overhauled.
What is an Overhaul?
The clock is completely dissassembled and cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, enlarged holes are rebored and the points which rotate in the holes, called pivots, are polished. No clock can be properly repaired without being completely dissassembled.
